Design Commission OpportunityNupiri-ti Palawa Art Festival.

  • 26 Sep - 21 Oct 2025

We are seeking expressions of interest from Palawa artists and designers to create a series of works that reflect the identity and purpose of the new Nupiri-ti Palawa Art Festival.

These works will form the foundation of the festival’s visual identity and will be featured across print and digital platforms, including a dedicated festival website.

Nupiri-ti Palawa is a major new initiative celebrating Tasmanian Aboriginal art across galleries and art spaces in Lutruwita/Tasmania. Launching in November 2027, the festival will bring together commercial, community, and council-owned galleries, as well as public spaces, to showcase the work of Palawa artists and provide a prominent platform for their stories and cultural expression.

The festival has been designed and will be led by Palawa cultural advisors Jeanette James, Cheryl Mundy trimanya, and Theresa Sainty, with support from the City of Clarence, Rosny Farm and Arts Tasmania.

Applications close Tuesday 21 October 2025.

Who can apply

The commission is open to Tasmanian Aboriginal artists and designers.

Artworks are welcome in a range of visual art mediums, including painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art, illustration, textiles, mixed media, and etching. The final designs will need to be adaptable for use across online and a range of print and digital platforms.

The artist will be supported to translate their work into formats suitable for the Nupiri-ti Palawa platforms, documents, and promotional materials.

Artist Fee

The selected artist will receive an artist fee of $8,000.

Commission Deliverables

The selected artist’s work will help shape the festival’s visual identity. This includes contributing to a new logo, colour palette, and design elements that will be used across the Nupiri-ti Palawa website, the Rosny Farm website, festival documents, emails, posters, banners, and other promotional materials. A printed version of the artwork will also be produced in consultation with the artist.

The creative direction of the above will be developed in consultation with the festival’s cultural advisors.

Timeline

Applications close Tuesday 21 October 2025.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 31 October.
