Chats with Bats, Trees and Other Creatures is part exhibition, part theatre set and part ritual space that looks to decentre humans not only conceptually, but spatially through a series of works dispersed throughout the gallery.
The works are intended to attract and highlight communication with non-human species and focus on forms of interspecies communications.
In this space paintings and installations will function as portals, tracing earlier attempts to communicate beyond the self and positioning the exhibition as an ongoing experiment in interspecies address.
Visitors to the gallery will be welcome to wear provided masks and costuming, becoming a disruptive performative element, activating and assisting in creating new iterations of the work.
Chats with Bats, Trees and Other Creatures aims to balance scepticism with wonder to unlock space where belief and doubt co-exist, and where the boundaries between species, spatial regimes and temporalities begin to dissolve.
