Why is a second a second long? Why is an inch an inch, a metre a metre? Who decides what we measure, how we value it, and why?
The Measure of Things is a solo exhibition by Sarah Morawetz exploring the systems we use to define knowledge and experience – the tools, standards, and rituals that shape our sense of time, distance, weight, and space.
Bringing together new and existing works, Morawetz reimagines familiar instruments of measurement – rulers, clocks, calendars, scales – as sites of poetic and critical inquiry. Through repetition, duration, and performance, she asks what happens when these systems begin to slip, stretch, or fail.
Playful and precise, The Measure of Things questions the metrics that govern our world and the fragile human perceptions that underpin them.
