Accessibility

We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable at Rosny Farm. Here’s what you need to know about access across the precinct – and if you need something different, please get in touch.

Our Buildings

  • The Barn is fully wheelchair accessible. Please note the floor is gently raked, with a 3° incline from front to back. Events in this space can include assistive hearing options – check the individual event listing or get in touch to confirm.
  • The Schoolhouse is also fully accessible, with ramp incline entry and wide doorways.
  • The Cottage has a narrow doorway and limited space – access is possible with assistance.
  • Accessible toilets are located behind The Schoolhouse.
  • Assistance animals are welcome throughout Rosny Farm (and we’ve got water bowls on hand if your four-legged companion needs a drink).

Our Events

  • Event accessibility depends on location – some events are in fully accessible venues like The Barn or The Schoolhouse, others on uneven outdoor sites or heritage grounds.
  • Each event page lists all accessibility features available on-site – including wheelchair access and terrain details, ramps or pathways, accessible toilets, Relaxed Performances, Auslan Interpretation, Audio Description and Captioning.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding access, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Getting here

By car

Just 5 minutes from the city and 15 minutes from Hobart International Airport, Rosny Farm sits at a quiet threshold – a gateway to Lutruwita/Tasmanian culture on Hobart’s eastern shore. Framed by bushland and tucked behind Rosny’s civic centre, it’s a place where contemporary art, local history, and native landscape come together.

Follow the sign on Rosny Hill Road.

By bus

Catch a low‑floor Metro bus from Hobart CBD that travels via Rosny Park along Rosny Hill Road – sit back and enjoy the ride.

Hop off at Rosny Hill Rd Stop 4 (Rosny College) – you’ll see The Barn and heritage sandstone wall straight ahead. A leisurely 90 m stroll brings you right to Rosny Farm’s front gates.

Find bus timetable, map journey planner on the Metro Tasmania – Hobart Network website.

By ferry

Take a scenic 10‑minute cruise across timtumuli manya/the Derwent River aboard the Derwent Ferry.

  • Board at Brooke Street Pier in Nipaluna / Hobart.
  • Disembark at the Bellerive Ferry Terminal.
  • Stroll just 10 minutes along the waterfront and through Kangaroo Bay to arrive at Rosny Farm – perfect for a breath of fresh air and riverside views.

Plan your trip with the latest schedules on the Derwent Ferries website.

By bike

Rosny Farm sits just off the Clarence Foreshore Trail – join the path at Kangaroo Bay or Charles Hand Park, then follow it to Rosny Hill Road.

If you’re coming from Nipaluna / Hobart and the Western Shore’s intercity cycleway, you can also access via:

  • The Tasman Bridge, picking up the dedicated cycle lane and via Nimrin Street / Montagu Bay Rd.
  • Take your bike on the Derwent Ferry at Brooke Street Pier, disembark at Bellerive, then roll the five minutes along the foreshore trail and up Rosny Hill Road.

Either way, secure your bike at the racks beside the gatehouse at Rosny Farm and enjoy the journey!

On foot

  • 2 minutes from Rosny CBD and bus mall
  • 10 minutes from Bellerive ferry terminal
  • About 25 minutes from Bellerive Beach
  • Around 55 minutes from Lindisfarne Village via the Esplanade
  • Approximately 1.5 hours on foot from Nipaluna/Hobart CBD via the Tasman Bridge
