#corecore is a chaos edit made via doomscrolling. It takes the tone of the terminally online and turns it into a frenetic visual montage portraying yearning through trite aphorisms. The hashtag is self-aware in its cringiness but built on a foundation of technologically induced disarray. This exhibition sees memes and short-form video content as a byproduct of processing uncertainty and fear. It uses the discursive tools of online culture and the tone of the terminally online, transferring muddied expressions of authenticity out of the digital.
Abbie is a multidisciplinary artist working with video, sculpture and text. Informed by popular entertainment, social content and internet slop, their practice looks at new media’s influence on our relationship with personal and collective identity and constructions of self. Abbie has held exhibitions in Australia and overseas and is represented by Penny Contemporary, Hobart.
