Mace X Zero Emcee Jazz Orchestra Project EOI

We’re currently putting together a fabulous project for the 2027 Clarence Jazz Festival, collaborating with Perth based bassist, composer and Australian jazz legend Mace Francis and emerging Noongar rapper Zero Emcee. Mace has recently been working with Zero to create big band arrangements of some of his tunes, which debuted this year at the Sydney Con Jazz Festival with the Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra. We’re putting together a youth big band (made up primarily of college/ university aged students) to perform with Mace and Zero at the 2027 Clarence Jazz Festival. 

We are looking for sax, trombone, trumpet and jazz rhythm section players who have some experience playing in a big band context.

The schedule is shaping up to look like this: 

• Friday 2 October 2026: EOIs close 

• Early October 2026: Musicians confirmed 

• Mid October 2026: Charts sent out for musicians to practice 

• Early November 2026: First big band get together (exact date to be confirmed) 

• Early December 2026: Online chat with Mace and Zero, ask questions, get to know each other etc 

• Tuesday February 16 and Wednesday 17 2027: 2 x half day rehearsals (10am-3pm), led by Mace @ Rosny Barn/ Hedberg conservatory 

• Evening of Friday 19 February 2027: 50 minute performance @ Clarence Jazz Festival
