Step inside an enchanted slime mould forest in The Barn.
For its 10th anniversary program, Beaker Street Festival returns to Rosny Farm with an expanded presentation of one of the festival’s most loved experiences.
Unfortunately named but astonishingly beautiful, slime moulds (myxomycetes) are some of the strangest organisms on Earth. Neither plant nor fungus, these ancient amoebae appear like jewels, coral, lacework and alien architecture across decaying logs, forest litter and damp woodland floors.
Self-taught naturalist and internationally recognised myxomycologist Sarah Lloyd OAM has spent nearly two decades documenting slime moulds on her property in northern Tasmania — collecting thousands of specimens, co-authoring academic papers, and helping establish the region as a globally significant hotspot for myxomycete diversity.
This immersive exhibition features stunning large-scale photography, dozens of meticulously preserved specimens, and microscopes revealing intricate hidden worlds usually invisible to the naked eye.
Wander through the enchanted forest at your leisure or join Sarah at The Barn for an Artist Talk to uncover more about the strange beauty and captivating secrets of these remarkable organisms.
